Shovel or Shuffle?

Shovel+or+Shuffle%3F

Loud voices come over the speakers during class, letting students know there will be a hall sweep and every student without a pass must make their way into their classroom. Over the past two weeks, with Mr. O’Malley out, there has been some debate over whether it’s a shuffle or a shovel.

Mr. O’Malley prefers the term “shovel” when he announces that one will be taking place, and students must get to class in one minute.

Now Mr. Wright, acting as an interim-principal, seems to like the term “shuffle” and gives students three minutes to find their way to their classrooms. Is he hoping to coin a new phrase? The hallway shuffle?

What do the students of Park High School prefer? When talking to an anonymous Park Panther, they stated, “I like the shovel better, we have less time to get to class and it doesn’t feel as groovy as a shuffle. It almost feels scarier, which I don’t know, seems to make my feet move faster.”

Students never truly know if Mr. Wright wants them to start breaking out in a dance number on their way to class or shuffle through the halls as quickly as possible. Mr. Wright has only been here for a short time and he could be into the whole dance routine thing. I guess the question is left to the students. Which term do you prefer?
