Many people have fallen victim to enjoying something that others don’t understand. Personally, this is something that happens to me with food. Oftentimes when I talk about food combinations I grew up eating, I hear a series of “Who would eat that?” and “That sounds gross.” Everyone’s tastes are different, however, I believe you can’t judge before trying, so here are some food combinations I enjoy that you can try.
- Cheese and Hot Chocolate: this food combination originated from Colombia, however, many other Hispanic areas such as Puerto Rico drink this as well. The idea is to put a slab of cheese at the bottom of your hot chocolate so when you finish the drink you will have a melted, chocolatey piece of cheese. This combination is something I grew up with and still love to have.
- Chips and Chocolate: Chips and chocolate are unexpected, but still delicious. It’s a great combination of sweet and savory that I enjoy and so do many others. My favorite mix is Ruffles with brownies.
- Strawberries and Cheese: You may recognize this combination from the Pixar movie Ratatouille where Remy, the rat, mixed a strawberry with a piece of cheese. After watching this scene I immediately tried it for myself and found that it was really good! This can be with any type of cheese, but I would recommend cheddar cheese.
- Mayonnaise on Crackers and Coffee: This blend was introduced to me by my mom. Mayonnaise on crackers is good alone, but that dipped into coffee makes it great for breakfast. You can also replace the crackers with bread.
If you decide to try the combinations listed above, I can guarantee you won’t regret it.
Although this list consists of mixtures that I have tried and enjoyed, you can still try more by experimenting with unexpected ingredients in your kitchen.
