Florida Mom Says Universal Orlando Character Was Rude to Her Kids, Internet Says She's the Problem

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — A family trip to Universal Orlando Resort turned into an online debate after a mother accused a costumed character performer of being rude to her children, only to find the internet firmly siding with the employee instead.

Serene Jamison, who describes herself online as a “blue collar momma” and regularly posts lifestyle and family content, shared a video of the encounter that quickly became her most-viewed post ever, pulling in 2.6 million views, 97,100 likes, and more than 2,300 comments.

What Happened During the Meet and Greet at Universal Orlando

According to Jamison, her family paid roughly $2,000 to visit the park and waited one hour in line for a chance to meet Hiccup and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. When they finally reached the front, the character performer playing Hiccup directed the children toward Toothless rather than immediately posing for photos with the parents.

While the boys’ parents began discussing photo arrangements with the employee, Hiccup told the group they would get their pictures, but only after the kids properly greeted the dragon first. “That’s what you got in line for,” he said. “Right?” When the children stayed quiet, seemingly nervous in front of their favorite character, Hiccup added, “Don’t answer at once.”

Mother Accuses Hiccup Performer of Breaking Character

The kids went on to pet Toothless, an interaction Jamison said she found adorable. But she was less pleased with how Hiccup handled the moment overall, claiming the performer “broke character” and treated her children with “disrespect.” In the video’s caption, she wrote that “whoever this guy was, shouldn’t have a job with children,” adding that it “ruined our entire day.”

Internet Reaction Is Split, But Mostly Against the Mom

The clip drew a mix of responses, though the split was far from even. A small number of commenters backed Jamison’s frustration. “What the heck. He was super rude,” one viewer wrote. Another agreed, “Very rude, he wasn’t warm at all.”

The majority of commenters, however, pushed back, arguing the performer was simply staying true to Hiccup’s well-known sarcastic, dry-witted personality from the films and TV series. “Is the ‘rude’ character in the room?” one person joked. Another asked, “So you’ve never watched the movies or the series?” A third didn’t mince words: “Oh girl, you’re in the wrong here.”

Kids Appeared to Enjoy the Encounter Despite the Backlash

Despite the online disagreement over the performer’s tone, most viewers agreed on one thing: both boys appeared to genuinely enjoy meeting Hiccup and Toothless, petting the dragon and getting their photos in the end.
