Park’s Varsity soccer team is focused on the goal. Last year was rough for the Panthers, who ended the season 3-10-1. Aside from the tough record, the team graduated 10 seniors for the last season, more than half of who were part of last year’s starting lineup. In his first season as Park’s soccer coach, Cameron Pope, has created new lineups and formations to match the teams strengths and new players. The returning players, and captains, Jonathan Munoz and Carlos Rojas, are both playing defense along with sophomore Vincent Wentorf and junior Jordan Mogren.

One big change for the team is that their top scorer, Jonathan, has moved from midfield to defense this season. He and the other defenders have adapted well to their positions since the beginning and have done an excellent job of keeping the opposing team from scoring during the games.

On September 19th, the Panthers soccer team put in a valiant effort in playing against Tremper. The game was extremely balanced, with both sides having equal possession of the ball, but a few small mistakes caused a loss for Park. (Final score 0-2) Tremper had more opportunities to score, but Park’s defense prevented an overwhelming amount of goals. Avila, on offense, played a hard game, and had many opportunities to score. Munoz, on defense, was a wall that prevented the opposing teams offense from constantly getting through.

The Panthers’ are looking to finish the season strong, in their upcoming playoff game, against a team who has not yet been determined.
