New York Mom's Family Vacation in Chicago Spirals Into Chaos After Friend Tracks Her Down Through Social Media

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A New York woman thought she was taking her family on a fun vacation to Chicago. Instead, she says the trip turned into a nightmare after a friend allegedly tracked down her hotel through social media, showed up uninvited with her own family, and sparked a chain of events that ultimately got them kicked out.

New York TikToker Kat, known for sharing storytimes, recently recounted how a vacation with her husband and children spiraled into chaos after a friend arrived unannounced with her own children and her situationship, Danny. While Kat admitted the surprise made her uncomfortable, both sets of children were excited to see each other, and the families already had plans to visit the aquarium, so she decided to go along with it.

Trip Takes a Turn After Friend Charges Drinks to Her Room

Unfortunately, what started as an awkward surprise quickly became a headache. Kat says her friend asked her to keep her dog overnight because Danny’s allergies were acting up, leaving her family with little sleep due to the pet’s whining. The following day, things got worse when Kat discovered that Danny had allegedly charged more than $85 in drinks to her hotel room.

That turned out to be the final straw. “So we get into it. So bad that now someone has called on us, that there’s an aggressive argument going on or whatever, and the hotel people ask us to leave early,” Kat explained.

I feel so conflicted. I’m upset because I feel like my kids were robbed as well but I also completely took away something fun and exciting that her kids were looking forward to. I feel terrible tbh. #viral #viralvideo #drama #storytime

Kat Wrestles With Guilt After Canceling Aquarium Plans

Before parting ways, Kat told her friend not to join them at the aquarium despite the fact that she had already purchased non-refundable tickets for her children. In the aftermath, however, Kat found herself struggling with guilt. “I made it so her kids can’t go to the aquarium. Her kids were excited, and I just ruined it, and I just took that from them,” she said.

The Comment Section Weighs In

Commenters wasted little time reassuring Kat that she had nothing to apologize for. “There’s nothing for you to feel bad about; she and Danny started this entire thing by charging drinks to your room. Their actions cost their children that opportunity,” one person wrote. Another commenter was even more blunt, saying, “She’s not your friend, she’s a parasite.”

Others felt the friend’s actions crossed far more serious boundaries than simply being inconsiderate. “That’s not a friend, that’s a scammer. What a weird situation. She had no money and wanted to take advantage of you. I would have called the police at this point. That’s stealing. She is a terrible mother and a terrible person,” one user commented.

Many commenters also encouraged Kat to end the friendship entirely. “Block this woman immediately and do not speak to her again. Do NOT feel guilty about it. She stole from you, stalked you, and got you kicked out of the hotel for YOUR vacation,” another person wrote.

Some Say Kat Shares Part of the Blame

Not everyone was completely sympathetic, however. Some viewers argued Kat should take responsibility for publicly sharing so much information about her whereabouts online. “You set yourself up. Why would you post details about your vacation? Your friend showing up is your own fault. You got taken advantage of and you’re mad, but like I said, you can’t blame anyone but yourself,” one commenter argued.

The New York story ultimately sparked a larger discussion about online privacy, personal boundaries, and how much access people should really have to the details of our lives.
