New York Woman's Request for More Food Gets an Unexpected Reaction From Her Server: 'You Have Enough'

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — A woman dining out with her friend got an unusual response from her server after asking for an additional food order, sparking a wave of shared stories online about being food-shamed by restaurant workers.

Server Tells Diner ‘You Have Enough Food’ After Soup Dumpling Request

TikTok user Annie T. posted a video showing her friend bursting into laughter across the table from her, with a text overlay explaining why. “I asked my friend if maybe we should do another order of the soup dumplings,” the text read, before revealing the server’s response: “The waiter said, ‘You have enough food.'”

Annie sarcastically agreed with the assessment in her caption, writing, “Yeah, no, terrible idea forgive my gluttony.” She later clarified to BroBible that the moment was lighthearted rather than rude, explaining the server was simply being helpful since the table already had a full spread of food left to finish, and that she and her friend found the exchange hilarious and refreshing.

Commenters Share Their Own Food-Shaming Stories

The video sparked a wave of similar anecdotes in the comments. One person recalled their mom ordering so much pizza in college that she ended up in the delivery guy’s wedding. Another shared ordering eight hash browns at McDonald’s for their family, only to be asked at the window if they were the one who ordered “one million hash browns.”

Someone else described being a regular at Wendy’s for chicken nuggets, recalling an employee once shouting, “She’s here, drop the nuggets now!” Another commenter said a Chick-fil-A worker commented on the calorie count after they requested two dressings for a salad, while someone else recalled a hibachi chef jokingly calling them “fatty” when offering more noodles.

Reactions Were Mixed Among Viewers

While many commenters found the exchanges funny, others didn’t see the humor. “0% tip if a waiter said that to me,” one viewer wrote. Another admitted, “I’m way too hostile for some of these interactions.” A separate incident was also referenced involving a Jersey Mike’s customer who claimed she was food-shamed while trying to order a large sandwich.

Do Restaurants Actually Limit How Much Customers Can Order?

Restaurants typically don’t cap how much a table can order, since larger orders generally mean more revenue. In fact, some restaurants require the opposite, mandating that each diner order at least one entrée. Order limits are more commonly found at all-you-can-eat establishments, often to prevent food waste, with some venues even prohibiting leftovers or fining customers who don’t finish their plates.

Food Waste Remains a Larger, Costly Issue

Globally, an estimated 2.5 billion tons of food are wasted each year, with the United States topping the list, discarding around 120 billion pounds annually. That accounts for roughly 40% of all meals produced in the country, or about 325 pounds per person, amounting to an estimated $218 billion in wasted food each year.

Still, many felt the servers in these moments may have done more harm than good, making customers uncomfortable instead of focusing on building a bigger bill, and a potentially bigger tip.
