Editorial Policy
Parkbeacon.org is an independently operated digital news publication committed to honest, accurate, and community-focused journalism. We cover local news, crime and public safety, severe weather, and the kinds of stories that matter to real people living in real communities across the United States.
This Editorial Policy describes the principles, standards, and practices that guide every publishing decision made at parkbeacon.org.
The Standard We Hold Ourselves To
Independent journalism only has value if it is trustworthy. At parkbeacon.org, trust is not assumed — it is earned story by story, correction by correction, and decision by decision.
Robert Beaudoin founded this publication with a clear editorial philosophy: report what is true, source what you publish, correct what is wrong, and never let outside interests change any of those three things. That philosophy is not posted on a wall somewhere. It is applied to every article that goes live on this site.
How We Verify What We Publish
Nothing is published on parkbeacon.org based on rumor, assumption, or unverified social media chatter. Every story is grounded in sourced, confirmable information.
We verify our reporting using official law enforcement statements and press releases, sheriff and police department public records, court filings and legal documents, government agency communications, National Weather Service bulletins and emergency management alerts, verified official social media accounts, direct statements from named and accountable sources, and open public records accessible under U.S. law.
When multiple sources are available, we use them. When a key fact cannot be independently confirmed, we say so or we do not publish it. When a story develops and new verified information emerges, we update the article and note that it has been updated.
Editorial Independence
parkbeacon.org operates with complete independence from political, financial, and commercial influence.
No advertiser has ever directed our coverage. No sponsor has ever been offered favorable editorial treatment in exchange for spending. No political organization or individual has any relationship with our newsroom that could compromise our reporting. Robert Beaudoin makes all editorial decisions alone, based entirely on journalistic merit and public interest.
Sponsored content, when it exists, is always labeled prominently and kept entirely separate from independent editorial work. Readers will never be left guessing whether what they are reading is journalism or a paid placement.
Crime and Public Safety Reporting
Crime coverage carries unique responsibility because it involves real people, real legal consequences, and real community impact. parkbeacon.org approaches this category of reporting with exceptional care.
We report only what is confirmed through official sources such as law enforcement statements, court records, and verified public documents. We avoid unnecessary graphic detail that serves no informational purpose. We do not publish the private home addresses of individuals. We treat victims with dignity and do not publish identifying details about victims of sexual crimes unless legally permissible and clearly in the public interest. We use mugshots only when their inclusion is genuinely relevant and newsworthy. We update crime articles promptly when charges are changed, reduced, dropped, or when new legal developments occur. We identify minors in crime coverage only when permitted by law and when there is a clear and compelling public interest reason to do so.
Weather and Emergency Reporting
When severe weather or public safety emergencies are developing, accuracy and speed both matter. parkbeacon.org sources all weather and emergency content exclusively from the National Weather Service, state and local emergency management agencies, and verified official alert systems.
We write weather content in clear and direct language without exaggerating conditions or manufacturing urgency that does not exist in the official data. Public safety is always the priority and it is never used as a hook for sensational headlines.
Covering Viral and Unusual Stories
Not everything we publish involves breaking news or public safety. Some stories are unusual, funny, surprising, or simply worth knowing about. We approach this category of content with the same editorial standards we apply everywhere else.
Before publishing any viral or offbeat story we verify its authenticity through original sources. We treat the real people involved with fairness and respect. We avoid framing that mocks, demeans, or invites harassment toward any individual. We clearly attribute user-generated content to its original source. We never knowingly publish hoaxes, digitally altered media, or content designed to mislead.
Our Position on Artificial Intelligence
parkbeacon.org may use AI-assisted tools in limited supporting roles including grammar and spelling checks, structural editing assistance, headline refinement, and organizational support for research. These tools assist the editorial process but they do not replace it.
Robert Beaudoin is responsible for every fact, quote, and claim published on this site. AI tools do not generate our reporting, invent sources, or produce publishable content independently. All content goes through human editorial review before it is published. That standard will not change.
Conflicts of Interest
Any situation that could reasonably compromise the objectivity of our reporting must be disclosed and addressed before coverage proceeds. This includes personal relationships with subjects of coverage, financial interests connected to a story, political affiliations relevant to a topic being reported, and any arrangement that could create the appearance of bias even where none exists.
Where a conflict cannot be adequately managed, Robert Beaudoin will step back from that particular story or disclose the relationship clearly within the coverage itself.
How We Handle Corrections
Errors are addressed openly, promptly, and without minimizing their significance. When a correction is made to a published article, a note is added to the piece indicating what changed, what the correct information is, and when the change was made. Readers who identify potential errors are encouraged to submit them directly.

Ethical Standards Across All Coverage
Regardless of the story type, parkbeacon.org is guided by a consistent set of ethical principles. We avoid publishing content that could cause unjustified harm to private individuals. We protect the privacy of vulnerable people including minors, victims, and those in crisis. We never use misleading headlines that misrepresent the content of an article. We provide context that helps readers understand stories fully rather than partially. We represent all communities fairly and without discriminatory language or framing. We hold public figures and institutions accountable while treating private individuals with greater protection and care.
Advertising Does Not Touch Editorial
parkbeacon.org is supported in part by advertising revenue. That support is appreciated and necessary for independent journalism to function. It does not, under any circumstances, influence what we cover, how we cover it, or what conclusions our reporting reaches.
The editorial and advertising sides of this publication are completely separate. Advertisers are never offered and will never receive any form of editorial influence, favorable coverage, or preferential treatment in our journalism.
