Parkland, Florida went through a devastating shooting on Wednesday, February 14th. The shooter was 19 year old, NIkolas Cruz. He shot and killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and also wounded many more.

Not only were students killed but adults were too. Scott Beigel, a geography teacher, was killed as he was trying to usher students back into his classroom when the shooting broke out. Aaron Feis, an assistant football coach, was killed when he threw himself in front of students to protect them from oncoming bullets. He died after he was rushed into surgery. Chris Hixon, the school’s wrestling coach was killed during the shooting as well. The following names are those of the students that were killed. Alyssa Alhadeff, Martin Duque Anguiano, Nicholas Dworet, Jaime Guttenberg, Luke Hoyer, Cara Loughran, Gina Montalto, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty, Meadow Pollack, Helena Ramsay, Alex Schachter, Carmen Schentrup, and Peter Wang. None of those innocent students or adults deserved what happened.

Some people at the school suspected that Nikolas Cruz would be the one to do something like this. Joelle Guarino, former neighbor of Nikolas Cruz, says that she knew that Nikolas Cruz was going to shoot up as school. Guarino told CNN; “I had no doubt he was going to do this. My husband and I both knew we would eventually see him one day on the news, wearing an orange jumpsuit charged with murder.” Guarino said her home was in the suburban neighborhood where all the kids on the street hung out. Which included Cruz. Guarino said that she had worries with Cruz from early on. He once hit one of her kids with a plastic bottle.

One thing that you many be thinking about is; who bullied Cruz? What caused him to do this? Zachary Cruz, Nikolas’s brother believes that he could have prevented what happened. Zachary told investigators that he bullied his sibling when they were younger. Zachary even said that two days after the shooting, he felt guilty about it. He also told investigators that he now regrets bullying Nikolas.

Finally, not only are people affected by this horrible incident but, the world is affected. The shooting spurred a national debate over gun laws. Should there be stricter gun laws? Should it be harder to purchase a gun at all? These questions and many others have been heavily discussed around the world. So, before you decide what your answer to these questions think about the pros, cons, and also the risks of gun laws.
