Cell phones have many positives in today’s society. According to 2016 sources, 2.1 billion people have a smart phone of some kind in the United States. For instance, communication has been faster than ever; information about anything is being sent at the click of a button. Despite the many positives you can think of, cell phones have just as many negatives.

While sending messages is easier than ever nowadays. Unfortunately, it can be used to harm others in the sense of bullying people. For starters, cell phones can negatively influence a person’s emotions. 46 percent of heavy users experience cyberbullying on their cell phones, a much higher rate compared to just 23 percent of teenagers who are within the ‘normal usage’ bracket. Like Dr Martyn Wild (A Cyber Safety Expert) said, “Cyber-bullying is poised to turn into the biggest online concern, already affecting up to 35% of all children.” .

Another negative factor that cellphones have is increasing stress levels. The constant ringing, vibrating alerts, and reminders about everything can really put someone on edge. According to a study by University of Gothenburg, Sweden, they measured psychological and mental health effects on young adults if they used their phones quite often. After a one year follow up, they found out that majority of the young adults were more stressed out.

Cell phones also can give you eye vision problems. Screens on your cellular device are much smaller than a computer monitor and because of the smaller screens, you naturally squint more. In result, causing eye straining that can be vital to your vision later on down the road. According to a study done by Vision Control, 70 percent of Americans don’t know or are in denial eye strain.
